“I believe that having the ability to create is a fundamental human right” – Interview with Zoe Adamovicz
Zoe Adamovicz is CEO and co-founder at Neufund. With a diverse academic background spanning computer science, sociology, and Ayurvedic medicine, Zoe is a pioneering tech entrepreneur and a serial founder.
Over the past 20 years, she has co-founded multiple startups, raised countless rounds of venture capital, and driven a number of exits. Her most recent venture, Neufund.org, is a fintech firm for securities tokenization that aims to democratize access to global innovation capital.
A mindful entrepreneur and leader, Zoe believes that every founder’s fundamental duty should be to avoid the weaponization of technology at all costs. Named by Forbes as one of 2018’s five female rock stars in blockchain, and FORBES top 50 women in tech Zoe is one of the main speakers at the Hinterland of Things.
Zoe, can you describe what “Neufund” is in an easy way?
Zoe: Neufund is a challenger investing & fundraising platform. On the one hand, we enable companies to conduct legally binding IPOs in a safe and mostly automated way. Using Neufund, companies can address a global pool of institutional and retail investors with an offer of digitized equity.
On the other hand, we lower the barriers to entry to the world of investment – our user-friendly interface and legal architecture make it easy and safe for anyone to access investment opportunities.
What is your Vision?
Zoe: Neufund opens up a new, borderless, and global platform for investors and companies of all types. I’m driven by the idea of enabling all entrepreneurs to pursue innovation, giving them the access to financing they need. And on the other hand, I want anyone, from anywhere, no matter their economic background, to have equal access to investment opportunities.
“Technology isn’t an end, it is merely a means.”
What is fascinating about entrepreneurship? Why are you such a passionate serial entrepreneur?
Zoe: I believe that having the ability to create is a fundamental human right. To me, entrepreneurship is a transformational power that provides the tools to change the reality around me for the better.
What is the best way to act responsible with technology for you?
Zoe: Technology isn’t an end, it is merely a means. I believe that creating technology demands mindfulness and asking oneself about the impact it will have – will it have the power to change somebody’s life for the better? Can it have the opposite effect? If so, how can we prevent the negative impact?
Hinterland’s motto is “responsibility” – what are Neufunds values?
Zoe: Neufund values decentralization, transparency, and accessibility. We believe in the power of community – what an amazing thing it is to gather a group of people united by the same idea! We’re very thankful to the 2000+ holders of our tokens, who support us day and night. To create such an engaged community, we have made sure our products are easily accessible, no matter whether someone is blockchain-savy or not, and we have ensured equal access to information, erasing the asymmetries inherent in centralized systems.
“To me, Hinterland of Things is an inspiring gathering full of leaders of tomorrow.”
Why do you join the Hinterland of Things? Have you ever heard about Bielefeld?
Zoe: To me, Hinterland of Things is an inspiring event gathering full of leaders of tomorrow. I look forward to hearing interesting keynotes and connecting with other creators.
What is your vision for “Startup-Germany”?
Zoe: If I could make a wish for Germany in 2020, it would be to become more open to new technologies and quicker to recognize those that have a good impact on the economy and society.
What are the biggest problems for startups in Europe compared to the USA and Asia?
Zoe: Europe-based entrepreneurs have a harder time accessing funding. It’s one of the challenges we’re trying to solve at Neufund – to us, good business ideas should not depend on geographic location. Someone based in Europe or Asia should have equal access to the capital needed to develop a product.
